Privacy Policy

Your privacy matters to Orbit. Your data will never be sold or collected without your explicit permission.

Last updated: January 2026

Your Data Stays Local

All orbits you save (links, notes, code snippets) are stored only in your browser using Chrome's local storage. Your data is never uploaded to our servers or shared with anyone.

Note: Your data is stored in plain text on your machine and is not encrypted. Avoid saving passwords, API keys, or other sensitive information.

Account Information

If you choose to create an account, we collect only your email address and a securely hashed password. This information is used solely for authentication. Your saved orbits remain local and are never synced to our servers.

Pro Features & Third-Party AI

Pro features use OpenAI's API to generate your weekly digest. When a digest is triggered, the content of your active orbits is sent to OpenAI for processing.

According to OpenAI's current API data usage policy, data sent via their API is not used to train their models and is retained for up to 30 days for abuse monitoring before deletion.

Our servers process your content ephemerally—it is never stored in our database. After your digest email is sent, the content is immediately discarded.

Important: Do not include passwords, API keys, or other sensitive information in your orbits if you plan to use AI-powered digests. By upgrading to Pro, you consent to your orbit content being processed by OpenAI.

No Ads, No Tracking

Orbit is completely ad-free and tracking-free. We do not inject advertisements into your browsing experience or track your activity. Your attention and privacy are not for sale.

Data You Control

You have full control over your data:

Export: Download all your orbits as JSON at any time from the extension settings.

Delete: Clear all local data from the extension settings, or simply uninstall the extension.

Account deletion: If you have an account, you can delete it from the extension settings. This removes your email and authentication data from our servers.
